what if i'm ill?

If you feel ill it may not be a good idea to have a massage, but this will depend on what your illness is, what stage you are at in it and your personal preference.

Generally speaking, having a massage in the early stages of a viral illness like a cold can bring your symptoms out and make you feel worse than before the massage. In some circumstances this would be what happened anyway, in others it may be exacerbated because massage will stimulate circulation and the lymphatic system which works hard in illness to clear the body of infection. In other words, massage may interfere with your body's natural immune response.

In some instances feeling ill is more a case of being run down and needing to switch off and recharge, in which case massage would be great! Especially with some essential oils to help boost the immune system and some work around your head.

Towards the end of an illness, especially if it is lagging and you are struggling to get back to 100% a massage with aromatherapy oils can help to boost convalescence and help you get back to strength.

Since I operate with a 24 hour cancellation policy where appointments will be charged if I cannot fill the slot in this time, I ask that you contact me as early as possible if you start to feel unwell. I understand illness is not always predictable and I will be as accommodating as possible but please keep this in mind.

If you are unsure about whether or not you should have a massage, please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss.
